About Our Employment Services

Employment and community economic development are key standards of well being. Income security and labour market conditions have a direct impact on individual and family success. Our employment services provide job seekers with labour market knowledge and customized responses to employment barriers. TNO delivers the Employment Ontario (EO) program funded through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). The service is offered to all Ontarians. The services offered include Resource and Information, Case Management, Job Development and workshops and job recruitment events.  Services include:

Independent Job Search: Resource & Information (R&I)

  • R&I counselors guide clients on their job search and provide access to resources: job boards, resume templates, community resources
  • Use of computers / fax / telephone / photocopier.
  • Participate in Workshops / Information Sessions.
  • Job Board and community event information.

Guided Job Search (JS):

  • One-to-one Employment Counseling to develop an action/services plan-includes resumes development/critique/interview skills etc.
  • Referrals to other programs or interventions.
  • Connects clients with education and training programs.

Job Development: Job Matching, Placement + Incentives:

  • Outreaches and connects with local employers on behalf of clients
  • Matching clients’ skills + interests with work opportunities
  • Facilitation of work opportunities + negotiation of the employment relationship
  • Experimental or on the job training.
  • Placement support in identifying + workplace issues that may affect their success.
  • Financial support to remove barriers to participation.

Retail Sales & Customer Service Training

Retail Sales Training (Number of hours of training: 12 hrs)

Content includes:

  • Overview of the nature of retail work
  • Using a basic computerized cash register
  • Customer service language
  • Intercultural and cross cultural communication skills and strategies
  • Resume and interview preparation (including mock interviews) for retail positions

*At the end of the course there is a volunteer placement at a retail store – 20 hrs over 2 weeks

Customer Service/Call Centre Agent Training (Number of hours of training: 30 hrs)

Content includes:

Week 1 – Group Training

  • Overview of the nature of Customer Service/Call Centre roles
  • Online Call Centre Training – training will “help call center agents learn to make the most of their telephone-based work, including understanding the best ways to listen and be heard. Each phone interaction has elements of sales and customer service skills, which trainers will explore in detail throughout this energizing and practical workshop.”

Week 2 – One-to-one Coaching

  • Resume preparation and Interview preparation (including mock interviews) for Customer Service/Call Centre positions

* At the end of course there is an on-site hiring event with employer partners.
